Very little is known about Fritz Kroepsch (Kröpsch); Pamela Weston notes in her book More Clarinet Virtuosi of the Past that he studied at the Vienna Conservatory from 1824 to 1826.  Book 2 (#168-350) of the 416 Progressive Studies contains 183 "micro-études" which are organized by key.  Each key is given 2 pages of around one dozen short exercises; each exercise is about 3 measures long, is phrased with a simple harmonic progression, and is varied with dynamics, articulation, and chromaticism.  Because of their short length, they are suitable for technique study or warm-up material; one can choose a whole page, or focus on just a few.  As is indicated on the first page, "Every exercise must be repeated from 4 to 8 times."  The organization by increasing sharps/flats in the key signature is solely what gives this work an increasing difficulty progression.  The last page is an extra exercise of descending arpeggios with chromatic neighbors in all twelve major/minor keys.

    Quick facts
Length: each exercise = about 3 measures
Range: highest pitch = written A♭6
    Key signature: 4♯, 5♯, 6♯, 3♭, 4♭, 5♭, 6♭
    Time signature: 2/4, 3/8, 4/4

The technical demands are best for an intermediate clarinettist, especially considering the frequent leaps which sometimes exceed an octave.  Major and relative minor keys from E♭ Major up to 6 sharps/flats are included (Book 1 contains all keys from no sharps/flats up to 3 sharps).  The only time signature used is 4/4, with very few exceptions.  The altissimo register is regularly employed, with the highest pitch in this volume an A♭6.  This entire Book 2 of the 416 Studies is included in Klosé's Celebrated Clarinet Method from the same publisher.
